Located in Greeneville, Tennessee, the purpose of Smoky Mountain Music Teachers Association (SMMTA) is to raise the standards of music teaching, performance and appreciation in upper East Tennessee, and to encourage a greater respect on the part of music teachers and the public at large for the music teaching profession.

Purpose

1. To promote professional and social relations between its members;
   
2. To provide programs, discussions and activities of interest to private music teachers, and to others interested in the music teaching business;
3. To raise standards of music teaching, performance, and appreciation among music teachers, institutions, and the general public in the upper East Tennessee area;
   
4. To encourage a greater respect on the part of music teachers and the public at large for the music teaching profession.
